App creation

Your own app, on their phone and on your computers

An app with your name on the customer’s home screen for ordering, booking and loyalty, or a Windows and Mac tool that replaces the spreadsheet your team works around. Built once for iPhone and Android, or once for Windows and Mac.

Free, no obligation, and a written quote before any work starts.

Where your time comes back

  • Regulars reorder and rebook themselves, in one tap
  • Offers and reminders read on the lock screen, not lost in an inbox
  • Your team works in one app instead of a spreadsheet and a group chat

Every business is different. The free consultation is where I work out with you what it means for yours.

  • Twenty years building software
  • Based in Portobello, Edinburgh
  • One person from first call to finished job
  • Plain English, no jargon
  • A written quote before any work starts

What changes

What it gets your business

A website is visited; an app is kept. Once your app is on a customer’s phone, your name is on their home screen, a message from you arrives as a notification rather than an email they never open, and ordering again or booking again is one tap. The same goes for the computers in your business: a proper Windows or Mac app can replace the spreadsheet everybody is scared to touch. Apps are built once and work on iPhone and Android together, or on Windows and Mac together, so you are not paying twice. The unwelcome part: most small businesses do not need an app, because a fast website does the job for less, and the consultation will tell you plainly if that is you.

  1. Customers come back more often, because you are one tap away on their home screen

  2. Offers and reminders get read, because a notification is seen where an email is ignored

  3. Your staff work from one app instead of a spreadsheet, a notebook and a group chat

  4. A tool that fits how your business actually works, rather than one you bend yourself around

Ideas, not promises

What this could look like for you

A few examples of what it could look like for a business like yours.

  • A loyalty card that lives on their phone

Stamps collected in the app instead of a paper card that gets lost, with a nudge when they are one coffee or one haircut from a free one.

  • Order again in one tap

A regular customer could reorder last week’s order, or rebook last month’s appointment, without ringing or filling in a form.

  • A computer app for the office

A Windows or Mac app for quotes, stock or job sheets that works even when the internet is down, and syncs when it is back.

What you get

What you get, and what it means for you

  • Your app on their home screen

Your name is the first thing they see when they want what you sell, not a page of competitors.

  • Notifications you control

A quiet Tuesday becomes a busy one when an offer lands on a few hundred lock screens at lunchtime.

  • iPhone and Android from one build

Every customer gets the same app, and you pay for one app rather than two.

  • Windows and Mac apps for staff

Staff work faster in a tool made for your jobs, and it keeps working when the internet drops.

  • Joined up with your systems

Bookings, orders and stock flow between the app and your website, so nothing is retyped or missed.

Everything included

  • An app for iPhone and Android, built once so both work the same way
  • A Windows and Mac app for your office or shop floor, where a website will not do
  • Your app in the App Store and Google Play, with the listing, screenshots and approval handled for you
  • Notifications that reach your customers on their lock screen, sent when you choose
  • Joined up with your website, your bookings, your till or your stock, so nothing is typed twice
  • Updates for new phones and new versions of iOS, Android, Windows and macOS, so it keeps working

What it costs

Quoted per project after the free consultation, with the app store fees and any running costs stated up front.

Apps for Edinburgh and Lothian businesses are quoted at the local rate, which is heavily discounted.

The process

Four steps, and the first one is free

You can stop after the first without owing anything.

  1. A free consultation

I find the pain points: what is costing you time, what you wish worked better, and how the job actually gets done today. Face to face anywhere in Edinburgh and the Lothians, or on Zoom or the phone from anywhere in the UK or worldwide.

  2. A written quote

A fixed price, a list of what is included and a date, in writing, before anything starts. No day rates that quietly stretch, and no bill you first see when it lands.

  3. Built and launched

Design, build and testing, and you see it take shape as it goes. Your web address, hosting (where your site lives), security certificate and email are all set up for you, so there is nothing for you to buy or set up.

  4. Looked after

Hosting, security updates, backups, changes to your words and photos, and a local number to ring. Anything bigger is quoted before it starts, so the running cost stays the number you agreed.

Questions

Questions owners ask

When not to buy this

  • Your customers buy from you once and rarely come back, so a fast website would do the job.
  • You want an app mainly because competitors have one, and nobody has asked you for it.
  • A spreadsheet or an off-the-shelf tool already does the job and nobody complains about it.
Do I need an app, or would a website do?

Often a website will do, and it is quicker and cheaper. An app earns its keep when customers come back again and again (ordering, booking, loyalty), when notifications matter, or when your staff need a tool that works offline. The consultation will say which you need, and if a website is the honest answer you will hear it.

Will it work on both iPhone and Android?

Yes. The app is built once and works on both, and the same is true of Windows and Mac for a computer app. Getting it into the App Store and Google Play, including Apple’s review, is handled for you.

What happens when Apple or Google release a new version?

Phones and computers update every year, and an app needs small updates to keep up. That can be part of an ongoing care plan, so the app keeps working without you having to think about it.
